audubon zoo

symbols & marks

the new orleans audubon zoo relies on the use of visual language. symbols of animals are depicted everywhere and are used to indicate where certain exhibitions are. in researching the existing symbols, we discovered that the symbols are not as effective. the symbols of animals depict the full body, making the overall icon smaller, less legible, and too complex.

our goal was to simplify the figures. the new set of symbols were developed with a new perspective of the animals, instead of only front-facing. In addition to simplifying it, we designed with the intention of adding some movement to make the symbols more captivating.
